“The End” at Sanford Park

Greetings, everybody.  I hope you’re having a good day today.  For my part, I have some news to share with you.

I’ve decided to end Sanford Park at the end of the month.  I’ll be sticking to my regular Monday & Thursday schedule through the month of April, and that’ll be the end of the run.

I’ve really enjoyed doing the strip, and the guys at Viper have been really great to work with – I want to make it very clear that neither of those are reasons for ending the strip.  I’m ending the strip because there are some other personal and cartooning projects I’m involved with that are just starting up and are very exciting.  I want to devote more time to those, but I don’t want to keep Sanford going on a lower priority, so I thought it would be best to just let it go.

I’m not planning any big finale like any kind of special storyline or anything, but over the next couple weeks I hope to do some strips that kind of showcase each character – especially the ones who have changed a little bit.  (Few of the characters have stayed the way I imagined they would at first – that’s one of the most exciting things to me.)  In the end, the guys at the park will just go about their days the way they always have.

Right now I don’t have any plans to pick the strip back up later.  As I mentioned, there may be some solo cartooning projects on the horizon that I don’t have a lot of sharable details on yet.  I imagine those things will keep me busy for quite a while.  I suppose anything’s possible, but at the moment, I’m considering it the real end, and a good one.

Again, I’ve really enjoyed doing Sanford Park; it definitely kept me challenged and I had a lot of fun and I think I did some really good work here and there.  And in the coming month, I’ll be able to keep you posted on any other events or releases we might plan around the SP end.

If you find that Sanford Park leaves an inescapable void in your life, I have a couple of suggestions to help you as you try in vain to fill it.  Viper does run a couple other webcomics, both “longer-form” offerings.  Riverside (a light hearted adventurous homage to fantasy”) just ended its run but you can read it via archive, and Kung Fu Bean (every bit as weird as it sounds) updates every Thursday.

Or if you’d like to keep up-to-date in the coming months on different projects I might be involved in, you can always drop me a line at “cartoondan at-symbol gmail dot com”.

Finally, thanks an awful lot for reading!  The encouraging words I’ve received from many of you were incredible.  I’ve had fun, and I hope you have too.

Seeya in the funny papers,

Daniel
